Why homeowners call us

Protect the wood before the weather wins.

Untreated wood doesn't just fade. Okanagan sun dries it out and cracks it, snow and melt soak in and rot it from the inside, and once it's gone soft, no finish can save it. Caught early, a clean and re-coat lasts for years. Left too long, you're replacing boards, not staining them.

Do any of these sound familiar?

! A deck gone grey, rough and full of splinters.
! Water soaking into bare wood, swelling and warping the boards.
! A fence starting to split, lean and let go at the posts.
! A quote for full replacement, when catching it earlier would have meant a simple refinish.

We bring it back to life. Proper cleaning and prep, the right stain or paint for the exposure, and a finish built for BC's interior climate. Fences and railings warrantied for two years, deck walking surfaces for 30 days.

What your wood actually needs

Not every deck needs the same job.
That's the first thing we figure out.

There are two very different ways to refresh wood, and the right one depends on the condition it's in. Part of our job is telling you honestly which one you actually need, so you're not overpaying, or underpaying for a fix that won't last.

A refresh

If the wood is in good shape, we clean it, do any spot prep, and re-coat. Faster, more affordable, and ideal if you've kept up with it. The best-case scenario, and the cheapest.

A full refinish

If the finish has failed or the wood has gone grey and rough, it needs more, and we handle all of it: stripping the old finish, replacing any boards too far gone, then staining or painting from the ground up. More work and more cost, but it's the only way to truly bring tired wood back.

The catch: wood is far cheaper to maintain than to rescue. Left too long, a simple refresh becomes a full refinish, and badly weathered wood rarely comes back perfect. But even a full refinish beats tearing it out and starting over, and once it's done right, you're back in easy maintenance mode for years.

What is included

Cleaned, prepped, and built to last.

Clean and sand

We strip back the grey, wash off the grime, and sand it smooth so the finish actually grips the wood.

The right finish

Stain or paint chosen for sun and snow exposure, so it holds up instead of peeling off next summer.

Tidy and protected

Plants, siding and hardware protected, tidied up each day, and left ready to enjoy.

What homeowners say

Rated 5.0 on Google.

Every word below is a real Google review. Nothing edited, nothing tidied up.

Working with Taylor and his team was a great experience. I hired him to paint a condo for a client, I managed the project and they were so professional, quick and clean. Everytime I asked for something or changed the plan a bit they were flexible and happy to oblige. I have since hired them to work on my own house.

Elizabeth Moore · Google review

Got back to me right away, showed up on time and gave me a detailed estimate. 10/10

Mike Derickson · Google review

Companion painting was extremely professional, responsive, and was very accommodating to our timeline. Taylor provided excellent paint colour recommendations and we couldn't be happier with the results. The painters were professional, detail oriented, personable and hard working.

Karen Bobinski · Google review

Good questions

Answered before you ask.

It depends on the wood, the exposure and the look you want. We'll talk it through on the estimate and recommend what will last longest for your setup.

It comes down to condition. Well-kept wood usually just needs a clean and re-coat. Wood that's gone grey, rough or started peeling needs stripping back and rebuilding the finish, sometimes with board repairs. We look at the actual condition and tell you honestly which one it needs.

Because refinishing a deck can mean two very different jobs. A well-kept deck might just need a clean and re-coat. One left for years might need full stripping, board repairs and a rebuilt finish. We quote the job the wood actually needs, no more, no less.

Often, yes. If the wood is sound we can clean, sand and refinish it and bring it right back. If it's too far gone, we'll tell you honestly rather than take your money for a fix that won't hold.

Your fences and railings are covered for 2 years. Your deck walking surface is covered for 30 days.

Wood you walk on takes foot traffic, water and snow that a fence never sees. No honest painter can promise your deck looks new years later. You deserve that upfront, not buried in fine print.

Yes, fully. Companion Painting is BC licensed (FM1112157) and carries $3M in general liability insurance.

Yes, wood and metal. Deck, fence, or both. Pick it on the form and we'll scope it in the quote.

Wood needs dry, mild conditions to take a finish properly. We plan around the weather so it cures right, rather than rushing it. And the sooner tired wood is caught, the cheaper and better the result.

Yes, our minimum is $2,000. It keeps our scheduling and pricing fair for the kind of work we do best. If your project is smaller, we're happy to point you in the right direction, and if it's close, just ask and we'll be straight with you.

We paint across the Central Okanagan. Kelowna, West Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, Winfield, Vernon and nearby. Not sure if you're in range? Just ask, we'll let you know straight away.
